A Few Facts on Bleeding Gums

Posted .

Do you ever wonder what you should do if your gums start bleeding? Some people assume that bleeding gums are something that just happens while you’re cleaning your smile—but in reality, if your gums bleed, you may be facing a more serious issue. Fortunately, if you’re able to find the reason your gums are bleeding, you may be able to address the problem.

For instance, would you be surprised to learn that if you’re trying to get into a consistent health routine, your gums could bleed for a few days? You see, when you start flossing, your floss will go into your gum line, which disturbs them, and causes them to bleed. However, if this bleeding does not let up, you may need to visit your dentist as soon as possible.

Similarly, there may be medications which can also cause your gums to bleed like blood thinners. These medications can also make it harder for your body to stop bleeding. To avoid these types of problems, we recommend telling your dentist about any medications you might be taking.

Finally, please remember that bleeding gums could also be a sign of gingivitis, which can lead to a number of complications. Unfortunately, if gingivitis is left untreated for too long, you may have to cope with tooth decay, bad breath, and even sensitive teeth.
